OSHA Hazardous Materials Technician

Class Description

The OSHA HAZMAT Emergency Response Technician (Hazardous Materials Technician) course is a 24-hour training course designed in accordance with the OSHA HAZWOPER Standard, specifically Part 1910.120 (q); and is required for individuals who respond to releases or potential releases for the purpose of stopping the release. After successful completion of the course, Students will be able to understand, recognize and respond to Hazardous Materials incidents, as well as understand: - How to implement the employer's emergency response plan; - The classification, identification and verification of known and unknown materials by using field survey instruments and equipment; - How to function within an assigned role in the Incident Command System; - How to select and use proper specialized chemical personal protective equipment; - Hazard and risk assessment techniques; - How to perform advance control, containment, and/or confinement operations within the capabilities of the resources and personal protective equipment available with the unit; - Implement decontamination procedures; - Termination procedures; and - Basic chemical and toxicological terminology and behavior.
